About: Sittingbourne Memorial Hospital

My Mother broke her hip and was in Medway. She was transferred to Sittingbourne Memorial. The care she received there was excellent. All departments gave excellent treatment except for podiatry.

Mother is wheelchair bound and so relies on us to take her. The family all work so appointments are booked around our days off. All departments are accomodating except for podiatry. They only work until 4 and cannot see my mum on a Monday unless she is diabetic - which she isn't. Mondays are the perfect day for us as there is always someone around. Most unhelpful receptionist you could ever imagine - no Customer Service skills whatsoever yet, when you see an actual Podiatrist, they are fine.

Mum has been told to cut her toenails herself! She's in a wheelchair so not possible. There answer was - 'Get a Chiropodist to visit and you'll have to pay' totally unacceptable.

We have tried and tried to get a mutually convenient appointment but to no avail, and Mum is now in pain as her toe nails keep growing inwards which was the whole reason for her needing a Podiatry appointment in the first place. A call on 0300 123 6756 to try and book an appointment and they claim they have no record of her?!

Still no appointment after trying since April 2015 and we are now November 2015! Poorest service imaginable.

Hello

Please accept our sincere apologies that you and your mother have not had a good experience of the Podiatry service at Sittingbourne Memorial Hospital.

This service has implemented centralised booking across the service over the last 6 months and the staff have been working through some teething problems.

The Head of Podiatry Services has asked if you could contact our Customer Care Team with your details and then she can look into what has happened with your mother's referral.

Many thanks
