"Disability discrimination"

We arrived at Peterborough city hospital Opthomology depart with our our fister child who has Down's syndrome. He had been referred to the hospital by the optician. We were very dissapointed with the doctor who treated. The doctor said that our foster child had been diagnosed with eye problems in September 2012 but there was nothing he could do as he had a disability and this was probably why he was struggling at school.

I cannot live that in this day and age a professional could have such an attitude towards someone with a disability. We do not know whether our foster child is having more difficulties with learning because of his he sight and would have thought that despite his disability options would be explored as to what could be done. We were basically told that nothing could be done as he has a disability.

I wonder if this would be the same treatment a child without a disability would be given. I very much doubt that and am appalled at the discrimination we were shown by the doctor.
