In October 2015 me and my wife received the good news that we are expecting our 3rd child together unfortunately our happiness soon descended into sadness as my wife was taken into pilgrim a+e in October with bleeding and tummy pains. After hours of waiting we were finally sent to gyny were we were told that they weren't sure what had happened and we were to come back on the Friday and have blood tests done to see if her hgc levels (pregnancy hormones) had risen which they had so we came back on the Monday for a scan when again our world was shattered as they couldn't see anything to suggest she was still pregnant she was sent for more bloods and told to go home and they would ring with the results the results were her levels had risen even more so was told to come back Wednesday for more bloods, but unfortunately she ended back up on gyny Monday afternoon with pain and bleeding again. she was admitted and kept nill by mouth they suspected an ectopic pregnancy. After much confusion we were eventually told on Tuesday night she would be going to theatre Wednesday morning to have explorative surgery and they told us that either way the pregnancy was not viable and she would lose the baby, whether it be naturally or via termination.
Obviously our world collapsed and we were distraught until she had routine pre opp bloods done on Wednesday morning where they check for literally everything again and to our surprise her hgc levels had risen again so thanks to the brilliant nurses nagging at the doctor, the doctor agreed to have another scan done just to be safe and to our surprise there has been change since the previous scan on Monday the yoke sack had started to form which indicates the pregnancy is viable and change is happening.
So the moral of our story is never ever doubt a women's intuition and never doubt pilgrims maternity nurses because if it were not for them my wife would have gone to theatre and put her and our unborn baby at unnecessary risk.
They were so caring and passionate towards us when we thought we had lost our baby there are certainly two nurses we feel went above and beyond the call of duty for my wife and I strongly believe that other department nurses could learn a thing or two.
