What I liked
The team of nurses on the chemo ward have created a supportive and safe environment and demonstrate what nurses with their superior understanding of patient needs can achieve given empowerment. The nurse holding my hand when I had my line put in was wonderful and made the difference between getting up off the trolley and staying. The man who did my heart scan before my hereceptin go ahead was fantastic at showing me on the machine and taking time out to go above and beyond. The QE also has support groups and a physio group for women with breast cancer which appear to be lacking in other local hospitals. The level of information I was getting on handling treatment appeared to be people i came across undergoing cancer treatment at other hospitals.
What could be improved
Does it really have to be mandatory for consultants and oncologists to be so consistently late?
Anything else?
My local hospital is Durham but I would recommend the QE to any of my neighbours.
I think the chemo ward at the QE should be used for benchmarking other services.
