I am a Homestart volunteer and since the beginning of September I have been accompanying the family I support to 2 different Stay and Play groups run by Hawtonville and Balderton Children's Centre. This was a big step forward for the family and the children and parent have benefited significantly.
The teacher of one of the children has commented that the child is very settled at school this term and participating fully in group activities. The parent feels this is partly due to attending this group.
All the staff at the Children’s Centre that I have met have been welcoming and not at all intimidating for parents wary of attending, but I particularly praise the 2 staff that run the Stay and Play Groups. They are kind and friendly as well as imaginative and easy going.
The Children’s Centre has proved to be a valuable local resource and the family I support are planning to attend more activities with the older children as well. I would strongly recommend this service.
