"Admission for Ectopic Pregnancy"

About: Heartlands Hospital

I have decided to leave a comment about my stay because it is still on my mind. Despite having had a previous ectopic pregnancy, I waited a week to be seen for a blood test after experiencing heavy bleeding and typical ectopic symptoms, I then waited another week for a scan and I do question if in this time my tube could have been saved.

I was admitted in the morning (and I have to say I was left feeling extremely confused as to my condition- and up until this day I still have questions) - I was made nil by mouth, and due to cancellations and missing meal times I remained without eating and drinking close to 36 hours. The toilets had blood smeared on the walls and remained so for my stay.

I was admitted because the Dr felt it was safer then me being at home , yet I was not checked the entire night , and when I struggled to the toilet with severe pain - telling a nurse that I had constipation pains no attention was paid to me, it is only after that I realised it was a blessing I survived as that is a sign for ectopic pregnancy . Equally with an earlier ectopic pregnancy I had in A+E years before , I was left there lying on chairs. It was not until I collapsed on the floor that I was treated as an emergency. I feel that Heartlands Hospital need to consider training staff better on ectopic pregnancy before someone dies.

Some staff were quite insensitive. I felt a strong sense of a "get over it and deal with it" attitude - one nurse in particular stood out when I asked them for surgery underwear which I had been desperatly waiting for they told me, whilst sitting with other staff in reception that was not their job . The aneathetist was extremely kind- and some of the nurses were very kind and efficient. And I thank the Doctors for potentially saving my life.

To do this, I would need some more information. Can I please ask you to contact me at your convenience so that I can obtain some more details?

Patient Services are here to listen to your concerns, highlight your experience to the appropriate senior members of staff and hopefully facilitate change to improve our patient's experience to prevent recurrence for other patients.
