"A&E Assessment."

About: Accrington Victoria Hospital

On the 2nd Sept 2015 I visited the A& E department with a dislocated shoulder. After a short wait I went into the assesssment room, this only took about 3 minutes. I then returned to the waiting room, which was quite busy. I was in a great deal of unbearable pain and slumped on a chair. A notice on the wall stated people would be seen in priority order. I was still waiting 2 1/2 hours later, whilst people with minor injuries were seen before me, this included a young girl with a scald on her leg who spent most of her waiting time running around the unit, hardly a priority case !!

When I finally got to see a nurse I was told they could do nothing for a dislocated shoulder there and I would have to be taken by ambulance to Blackburn Hospital. If I had been told this at my initial assessment I could have gone to Blackburn earlier, and been dealt with sooner.

I wrote a letter of complaint to the unit, but I have had no response. i would "not" recom mend this hospital to anybody .. go to blackburn if possible; i was treated and let down by this"new "triage idea becouse the person who was doing it could see that i was in distress but did "nothing" at all to help me. the worst hospital i have ever been in .. and the last time .. i would rather travel miles in a shaky ambulance than visit that hospital again!the xray done eventually at blackburn showed that my dislocated shoulder was out of the socket about three inches ; it took two doctors two attempts to get it put back.. imagine how painful that was!!
