"My treatment at Ayr Hospital"

About: University Hospital Ayr / Accident & Emergency

(as a service user),

I had an appointment in the A and E clinic recently. I was disgusted at how I was treated. I was sitting in the plaster room and the nurse growled at me, practically giving me the death stare. It did not end there. I was made to feel un-human-like throughout my appointment through the way she spoke to me and treated me. She did not make me feel at ease at all.

This is not the first time I have been made to feel this way whilst attending Ayr Hospital.

I have also felt ill-treated whilst attending A and E a few times.

I am writing this because I am a self-harmer and I don't want other self-harmers/psychiatric patients to be treated this way.

I will also possibly have to attend up-and-coming appointments at Ayr Hospital, and it has got to the stage where I dread going. It should not be this way, .

I respond initially to most of the posts and ensure they are passed to the appropriate team whether they are compliments, observations or grumbles. It is important to make sure all issues are addressed and I try to encourage that to happen for all the posts as required.

Dear Zachary,

Oh dear, I am sorry you have had your problems and we don't seem to have been as helpful as perhaps we could have been. We do not want anyone to feel this way. I will pass this to the team for their reflection as everyone should feel comfortable seeking care from us. As you have felt this way a few times, I wonder if you would like to speak to someone about your care in A/E. If you think this would be of help, please give me a call on 01563 826222 and let me know your name and date of birth or you can email me at eunice.goodwin@aapct.scot.nhs.uk and we can take it forward for you.

I hope you feel better in yourself,

Best wishes

Eunice

Dear Zachary,

Once again, thank you for bringing this to our attention. I spoken to one of the senior managers today and they tell me that you have also raised this through our concerns and complaints process. That is absolutely fine and as there is already an investigation
on-going there is no need to contact me to look into it, I would just confuse things, (Too many cooks spoiling the broth as it were).

Kind regards

Eunice
