I went as an NHS patient. The hospital is very clean and modern and also the equipment. Food when able to eat was very good.I had colon cancer Grade B2.After resection on 4th day I was asked by the assistant to consultant if I had someone to care for me to go home.I said I still had a catheter in and had not walked on my own yet.Some-one was sent within the hour to address this problem. So I did not feel ready to go but I did anyway. My details were sent to a local hospital for chemo Although the oncologist did not think I needed it because the cancer had not broken through the wallAfter 3 months I saw a local oncologist who said 3m onths is very late to start chemo after the op.So I did not have chemo.Every 3 months I attended The Marsden for a scan and blood tests. My tumour marker never reached below 5 and I still did not feel well/After 18 months still repeating my 3 monthly checks I asked my specialist nurse if I should feel well and they said I should. But nothing showed up in the tests.I started bleeding again .My GP made appt with the oncologist who said I did not expect to see you so soon.Marker was 9.I had every scan possible over the next 2 months and then there it was .One cell found in my liver It had got there after the unsuccesful resection. After 3 months I at last saw The consultant for liver resection. he gave me an appointment. But because I had waited so long. The cancer had spread so much from 1 cell.that I had 74per cent of my liver removed and 2 hepatic veins. When he told me after the operation the extent of the surgery I asked him why I had to wait so long.He replied because his book was full. These consultants also carry out private work I was asked to vacate my be again on the fourth day.But declined this time because my catheter bottle over filled and ran back giving me an infectionI do not know the percentage of patients who are private on the reviews but I do know that waiting time would never have been the same for private treatment
"not such a good experience"
