"Didn't come up to scratch!"

About: Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham

I have heard only great things about this hospital so I'm mystified by the treatment my partner received. There is not enough space here to inform you about everything. I suppose the worst thing that was allowed to happen was the fact that my partner lost almost one and half stone in seven days because he found it hard to swallow. He is now at home and very weak so I would like to ask why wasn't he given a liquid supplement ? We still don't have a diagnosis but if he is to receive treatment will he be strong enough to cope with it? We got conflicting reports from different members of staff and the patients didn't seem to have enough liquids. More well trained staff is needed and communication with the patient is sadly lacking.

Good afternoon

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback about your partner’s recent experience at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

We are very sorry to hear that some aspects of his care fell below the standard of care we strive to provide. There are a few questions in your posting that need answering and we are very keen to discuss your partner’s experience with him in more detail so that we can investigate what has gone wrong and ensure any necessary actions are taken. If you are happy to discuss your concerns with us further please make contact via the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) who will be pleased to put you in touch with the relevant senior staff. PALS can be contacted by phone 0121 371 3280, by email PALS@uhb.nhs.uk, via the hospital website www.uhb.nhs.uk/pals-form or in person by dropping in between 9am – 5pm (Mon-Fri) to the PALS office located near the Information Desk in the main entrance of the new Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.
