"As one,but not including the patients"

Hello again, some of you may have read my last review of Beech ward. Not a glowing report, but none the less true. It stated that the mostly uncaring staff belonged back in the 19th century . My son ,whilst he was there, just over a year, had maybe six hours leave because they were too busy and didn't have enough staff...this was their policy! My son decided ,not surprisingly, to take a leave of absence, and was returned by the police a week later. Upon his return he found that his television, radio, iPod, game console, electric toothbrush, in fact anything that makes life bearable in an asylum, taken away ......when asked about this the reply was "it's our policy!". He was also denied visits from family and allowed only one 15 minute phone call to us per day ...... I was told this is also their policy!

When I said this is all a punishment the consultant and the ward manager said no, it's our policy and care plan! When we complained about his treatment last time,ie not having his tooth repaired, chiropodist for painfull corn and operation for gall bladder removal, all denied in some form for over a year, that didn't come under the Beech unit care plan! My wife and I saw a so-called lead doctor about his treatment last August 19th, and was assured they would look into the complaints and be in touch within the week....we are still waiting. Good news at last, our son has been moved to a medium secure hospital in Essex and things couldn't be more different. The staff are friendly, caring, professional and informative and respect human rights. Woe betide any patient at Kingsley Green, the most uncaring institution I have witnessed in the last 15years . Yours Tony.
