"The whole team involved went out of their way to listen to my fears"

About: Princess Royal University Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

I would like to praise and say thank you to the team who delivered my daughter (via planned c-section). After a previous traumatic emergency section with my first child, I planned to have a natural birth with my second. However, complications meant that became unlikely, and the PRUH team advised an urgent section.

The whole team involved (surgeon Marieka, midwife Laura, also a girl in red scrubs possibly a student) went out of their way to listen to my fears and make the surgery as un-scary as possible. The anaesthetist (don't know his name, he wore his hair cover twisted into a flat cap shape) was especially kind, made it as easy as possible and kept me calm by chatting and joking throughout. Both he and the surgeon visited me twice before the surgery and answered all my questions, which really helped and made me feel heard which I appreciated. It was a very positive birth experience for me, and they gave me skin-to-skin with my baby straight away. Thank you to them all.

After surgery, I was really well looked after on the maternity ward, especially by Laura and Victoria the midwives, and Deborah the healthcare worker who helped me have a shower and was so kind to me. Thank you!
