Whilst visiting my father on C24 another gentleman in the ward, who my mother was aware suffers from Alzheimer's, decided to move from his chair onto his bed. He was clearly finding it a struggle so my mom went to help him. Because she knows he's rather unsteady I pressed the call button for a nurse, not wanting him to fall and injure himself and my mom. Eventually he managed to get on the bed with some assistance from me too and I put the side up on the bed and hooked his catheter big to the railing. It was 30 minutes before a student nurse ambled in, asked him what he wanted and sauntered out again. Half an hour before anyone came to see him. What if he'd needed the bathroom, what if he'd fallen, what if me and my mom hadn't been there to help???
I am disgusted and appalled at the inadequate lack of care on C24 in general. I'm never able to speak to somebody about my dad, referrals are never made, there is no understanding of elderly care and absolutely no empathy or kindness shown by the vast majority of staff.
