I find it very frustrating that at the side door of Wishaw near the gates and psychiatric wards there seems to be a constant stream of people smoking here. I was in a waiting room with my child and there was a a constant smell of smoke coming from outside in the window. It appears that the staff could not do much about it as could not see the people smoking when looking out the window as were out of sight hiding behing a metal container. Since smoking on the hospital grounds is banned I feel this should be patrolled and enforced rather than allowing passive smoking at the entrances.

I totally appreciate your frustration of people smoking at the side door and other parts of the grounds I know how unpleasant the smell can be and can understand you do not wish your child to be breathing in smoke.

We do our very best to challenge members of the public who choose to ignore our signs and continue to smoke on the grounds. As part of the car parking attendants duties they will challenge any smokers, they operate between 8am-4pm. They patrol the whole site on a daily basis. We also encourage staff to challenge smokers if they see them on the grounds. Unfortunately it is not illegal to smoke on the grounds therefore we cannot enforce a smoking ban on the site.

New signage is currently being installed across the site in an effort to discourage people from smoking anywhere in the hospital grounds.

Please accept my apologies you have had to endure the smell of smoke and hope this reassures you that we are making every effort to discourage people from smoking on the grounds.
