"Confidence Restored"

About: Queen Alexandra Hospital

Having recently visited an elderly friend on D6 ward who had broken her hip, I was pleasantly surprised at the standard of nursing.

I have visited many elderly friends @ QA Hospital and have been appalled at the standard of nursing on some of the wards. Patients were treated as bodies - not human beings - especially the elderly. I myself had to deal with my friend's needs as nurses refused to attend their patients.

However, on D6 it was completely different. The staff were wonderful - from nurses to tea staff. The nurses treated my friend with great kindness and patience - as if she were their own mother. There was a good balance between friendliness and professionalism. She was treated with great dignity and respect. Since this could be end-of-life nursing for her - this is so important.

My friend, I must admit, can be rather stubborn - and is certainly not the perfect patient. But the nurses showed great patience with her. Nothing was too much trouble. The call bell was answered speedily, and everyone on the ward worked extremely well together. There was a lovely atmosphere on this ward. There was no frenetic rushing around - and calmness reigned.

Thank you all on D6 for restoring my confidence in QA - and may God bless you.
