"I was a patient on 3/4 occasions ..."

About: Whiston Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

I was a patient on 3/4 occasions in G2 during 2007 and 2008 and can testify to the utter professionalism of all the staff on that ward. I was treated as a valued friend, even when I was at my most miserable, and cannot thank them enough. All grades of staff were only too happy to help and made me very comfortable under the most trying of circumstances. Praise is due to the management of this ward.

What could be improved

Desperate shortage of fully qualified staff to work on the ward, especially at night. It was quite frightening at times when severtal people were very ill and the staff were naturally forced to prioritise those with the greatest need. The nurse's station is too far from parts of the ward and shoukd be re-organised so that staff are always visible to all patients.

Anything else?

Although there is a shortage of qualified nurses the Health Care Assistants work extremely hard to cover this shortage and, without exception, are extremely efficient.
