What could be improved
I was having my first baby and believe when you phone up the labour ward you are told everything to stop you coming in so believe a bit more consideration given to each person separately. Also when transferred to the ward I felt that I was dumped on the ward. The labour had been tramatic and quick and I was not shown around so at 4 in the morning had absolutely no idea were anything was or how to access food. I actually went without two meals as I had no idea how to get them. Also the communication with doctors was poor after expressing a desire to go home we were frequently told the doctor would come and see my son but it soon got to 5:30pm and he had gone home so I had to discharge myself and return the next day. I believe the food on ward 17 for breastfeeding mums should be increased in size as I was starving alot the time. I found that no one was willing to take responsibilty for the situation that we were in and you were just passed around.
Anything else?
I had my first baby in Oct 2008. Frequent phone calls to the labour ward I was fobbed off. When they actually agreed to see me, I was dumped in a room and treated like a neurotic first time mum, not examined, checked over properly or anything. I error was made in the monitoring of my baby which I believe could have resulted in his death, a believe the shift was changing over. On return to the hospital was again treated with distaste till the gravity of the situation was realised and after that I cannot fault the delivery of my baby. He also spent time on ward 17 and I found all staff there to be incredibly helpful.
