I moved to the newstead area in 2014, not knowing anybody in the area and suffering from depression in a very difficult family situation I was crying out for help.

I was seeking help through my gp for my depression but I wasn't until the MASH team contacted me and asked me if I needed any help myself....I said YES and was referred to sure start.

I was given so much support through the last year, attending groups, support worker coming to see me at home. Something as little as having someone just listen to my problems helped me to get better and regain my confidence.

I am now giving back to the community by volunteering for sure start, attending college courses and looking forward to my future, thanks to the support of sure start.

Thank you so much for sharing your story, clearly our service was there for you when you needed it the most and this is what we pride ourselves in at the Children's Centre with our targeted support work. Your journey is clear and your positive outlook and future is possible because you were strong enough to admit you needed support or even just to be listened to, you have yourself to be proud of for that. It is so important for us to hear from parents like yourself that have been brave enough to share your story and come out the other end with such a positive future. I wish you all the best in your volunteering role with us, I know you will be supported well, our community development team take great care in supporting all our volunteers, we are achieving great things together and if we didn't have people like yourself giving up your time to volunteer, our service would not be as great as it is today, so thank you so much.
