I had an excellent experience in Theatre and in Recovery.
This was then spoiled by having to wait 6 hours for a transfer to ACU. When I arrived in ACU I was put in a bay with 4 empty beds which had presumably been there all the time but had been 'blocked' because of a shortage of staff that appeared to continue throughout the day and in to the evening. Three other patients arrived within the next hour or so. The nurse attending to us was 32 weeks pregnant but was trying valiantly to cope with an increasing work load. However, she appeared to receive little support or practical help from the ward manager.
My frustration was increased by having to wait over 90 minutes to be discharged.
"Very Poor ACU"
