my son who is 7 years old was admitted to A&E via an ambulance. We saw numerous members of staff & not once did I see any of them wash their hands before examining my child. The staff weren't very forthcoming with introducing themselves to my son, husband or I. I also had to ask one member of staff what their role was, as they were dressed in scrubs. This same member of staff, who it turns out was a nurse suggested that my son might have a condition, which as a healthcare professional myself I felt was a flippant remark, as no investigations had taken place or any examination by a doctor. Another member of staff entered the room, who I believe was a healthcare assistant as they didn't introduce themselves to apply cream to my sons arms to enable them to take bloods. We asked them to check, as we hadn't been told we were going to the children's ward & they obviously hadn't been told my sons name, just the sex of the child & room he was in. I felt we were left in the room for a very long period of time without any communication from anyone. This was our first visit to Darlington Memorial Hospital & as anxious parents we felt that the lack of communication between staff & ourselves made the whole situation a very negative experience.
