was referred in October 2014, put on the waiting list in May 2015, and still have no operation date

I am sorry that you are experiencing a lengthy wait for an operation. Unfortunately, as a consequence of unprecedented numbers of patients requiring emergency admission to hospitals within NHS Tayside, the Orthopaedic service has had to cancel planned surgery for patients resulting in unavoidable delays. Please be assured that plans are being developed to manage the backlog and reschedule patients in accordance with clinical priorities.
