I was visiting a relative in October when I seen an elderly lady getting neglected. The poor woman had been left on a chair to sit as her bed had broke and this was about 3 pm in the afternoon at visiting time so thinking nothing of it we left the ward after visiting time was over. Came back up that night at visiting time again (7pm) and the elderly woman was still sitting on her chair beside her broken bed.
I couldn't believe it, the old woman was very tired and desperately wanted her bed, when we spoke to the lady she said she didn't want to cause a fuss so my relative went to speak with a nurse and explained that the woman was tired and were they any further forward with getting her a new bed which she got told that they were dealing with it! ! !
So we left at 8pm after visiting time was finished, my relative informed me that the lady never got a bed until 10. 30 pm that night which meant that she had been left sitting in that chair for 7 and a half hours! ! ! This woman has survived wars and worked all her day's to be treated like this at her age. My family and the patients and there relatives all found this treatment totally disturbing and disgusting.
Something seriously has to be done with the staff in this ward (apart from a chosen few who were doing the job well). I would ask if someone from the NHS complaints department look into this matter as one day it could be your relative (gran) getting treated like this! ! ! !
