From today (30 Sep 2015) there will be no cash machine at the Royal Infirmary Edinburgh. This follows the closure of the RBS branch in July 2015.

There is word of a stand-alone cash machine being installed 'in due course', but no date has been set for this, and no action seems to be being taken.

The company who own and run the hospital have known this would happen for months, but have taken no action.

This could be a real disaster for patients, especially those who do not have family near by and who may have been admitted quickly (or those attending A&E).

It is also a real inconvenience for staff.

I was sorry to read your posting and have spoken to colleagues about your concerns. The Royal Bank of Scotland wished to close their branch at the Royal Infirmary and did so at the end of December 2014 and this included the removal of their ATM’s. We kept them as long as we could after RBS closed the branch.

We put notices up well in advance explaining this to everyone and that they would be relocated shortly. We are working with RBS to install free standing ATM’s within the hospital and we are hoping to have this in place soon.

I am very sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you durng this time.
