"Total hip replacement"

About: East Surrey Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

Following a fall during the night in early September I was admitted to A&E and subsequently given a total hip replacement later that day. Additional X-rays delayed my return to the ward pre-op and my pre-op drink was consumed half an hour before I was taken to theatre. As a result and with my full agreement the procedure went ahead under spinal block while I was conscious, but I suffered no discomfort, did not need a catheter and recovered quickly afterwards. The procedure and subsequent care have been exemplary and I am most grateful to the entire team at East Surrey Hospital.
