I had surgery for bowel cancer and was looked after by ward 4. The doctors were professional and kind with time taken to answer any questions, the nurses, although busy provided my every need and didn't mind waiting sometimes as they were so busy.
As a suffer of a hospital phobia I coped very well as I had been dreading the operation. All went well and I went home after 7 days. I could not comment on the food as I was on a light diet but what I had was not to my taste, however, they provided yoghurts and custard etc which was ok. The staff were patient with my extreme anxiety and my terror of injections, I cannot praise them enough.
The cleaners were always busy, however I found the toilets were sometimes not too clean and I was upset to find men shared the toilets and shower areas. I walked in on a man in the shower, I had thought that single sex wards meant single sex toilets, I did not like to see men on the ward walking around but on the whole I found the experience much better than I could have imagined.
The kind friendly staff made up for everything, they all had a few minutes to chat as they made my bed or checked my blood pressure. Lovely people and not as scary as I imagined.
