"Gastroscopy at Spire Liverpool"

About: Spire Liverpool Hospital

I was referred by my GP as an NHS patient. I was extremely anxious about having a gastroscopy and worried that I wouldn't be able to cope with swallowing the tube. The nurses who prepared me on the ward before the procedure were very reassuring and answered all my questions. They persuaded me to first try without sedation and just local anaesthetic, which I did.

During the procedure the 2 nurses in the room held my hand and talked to me the whole time, they were also very supportive. I had lots (really lots!) of throat spray. The doctor who did the gastroscopy was great, had a very calming bedside manner and was in and out with the tube very smoothly. I didn't feel that much, just mild discomfort and it was nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be. Definitely manageable. I was extremely relieved afterwards and was able to walk out myself after a short rest. Overall a very good experience, thank you.
