"Humiliation"

About: Shotley Bridge Hospital Site

You never go in on time, we've waited 45 minutes for a 5 minute appointment with the consultant and the consultant was just plain rude to us about my partners weight. The 2 scans we had at the hospital seemed fine, although they didn't disclose anything after them and as it's our first baby we would like to be re-assured that everything is OK if the baby is fine! So we don't know how big the baby is going to be or if there was anything not right with it. We are now waiting to have our 24 week appointment with the Midwife and then we'll check everything is OK with her, hopefully.

Also just today my partner had a Glucose Tolerence Test, which wasn't that pleasant because she couldn't eat anything and was going to have had needles stuck in her. But they messed us around and said that our appointment was far too early, as my partner is only 22+5 weeks, and they said we shouldn't of been there and they made the mistake. We got booked in for another one in exactly a months time, when we were supposed to have it!!

All I can say is that I would avoid this Hospital for Maternity services, especially if you have never had a baby before (and especially if the you have a high BMI), the staff know what they are doing but we felt messed about with and they gave off the impression that we don't matter to them. We are considering changing hospitals as we don't know what it will be like giving birth at Durham, and if it's anything like Shotley Bridge then we'd like to seriously think before we go.
