"Colonoscopy exam"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / General Medicine

(as the patient),

I attended Crosshouse endoscopic unit for colonoscope other day can't fault staff for care and attention a really nice bunch of people and surgeon mr Felsenstein was great

All put me at ease and treated me excellent

My only concern is with description of a colonoscope in leaflets as uncomfortable

I opted for no sedation or pain relief of anykind despite nurses advising to have it

It is more than uncomfortable but doable

A bit of honesty in pre procedure info would go a long way to preparing patients imho

Anyone expecting a bit of discomfort is in for a suprise.

That said I would if needs be have another

Surgeon and the nursing worked me controlling breathing holding my hand etc

Very misleading literature imho.

With no sedation I walked out after procedure having had sandwich and cup of juice ( my choice of drink, yes I got to choose drink and sandwich filling five star service )

I went into town straight away and felt completely fine can't thank staff enough

Great team.

I respond initially to most of the posts and ensure they are passed to the appropriate team whether they are compliments, observations or grumbles. It is important to make sure all issues are addressed and I try to encourage that to happen for all the posts as required.

Dear Cupotee,

I can only imagine that it is not the easiest test to have done and I am very impressed that you managed without any sedation or pain relief, well done. I will be very happy to pass this to the team so they know how much you appreciated their care. I have also spoken to one of the nurses in the endoscopy unit and they would be very happy to review this leaflet in light of your comments. We also wondered if you may be interested to be involved in the review and change of the leaflet.

If you are interested in contributing, please contact me on 01563 826222 or email me at eunice.goodwin@aapct.scot.nhs.uk and I can pass your contact details to the appropriate member of staff.

Thank you so much for taking the time to tell us how you felt about your recent colonoscopy procedure.

Best wishes

Eunice
