"So quick and easy"

About: Royal Bournemouth General Hospital

Been in terrible pain due to a concretion in one of my eyes. I've never had this before and it was typical it happened on a Sunday. Waited u til Monday morning when around 8am I called the line for the emergency eye unit. A member of staff took down my details and the problem and said that I would receive a call back within the next hour. Half an hour later I received a phone call from a different member of staff who went over the symptoms and explained to me what they thought it was, and gave me a choice of appointments and asked me to come down. After checking in for my appointment I had a 5 minute wait before I was called. They did a few tests and checks on my eye before I was told what it was and that it could be removed today. I'm a bit nervous in hospital situations and not good with needles but the person I saw today was brilliant with me. They brought a fan into the room, explained everything and made me feel very comfortable. The procedure was very quick and basically painless. I was given AB cover for a week or so and the member of staff also advised some products I could buy as my eyes are a little dry. I was so relieved when I left at how quick and painless it all was. A huge thank you to the member of staff I saw and the team behind it all!!

Dear 'Boon'

I am sorry to hear that you have suffered such a painful eye problem but I am so pleased to hear that the processes we have in place worked so smoothly to get you seen and treated in such a timely manner. Many of our patients feel quite anxious when coming in to hospital and our staff are well trained to help putting patients at ease and explaining in basic, easy to understand language what will happen and it is good to know that this was the case with the nurse who attended you. I am glad to hear that the procedure went well and with minimal discomfort on your part and I will be sure to pass on your feedback to the department sister so that she can share them with her team

I wish you a speedy recovery and thank you for sharing your experience with us as it can be helpful to other patients as well as a boost to our staff.

Regards Sue Mellor Head of Patient Engagement
