"condescending manner or bad day"

About: Leicester General Hospital

I was referred to the neurology department on 16th Sept 2015, after experiencing an area of my head kept going cold and numb along with numbness and pains in body.

I sat in a waiting room with people in wheelchairs, dementia patients, injured people all more in need of help, way before me and I would gladly step aside to give up my appointment space for them, if so needed.

An hour and ten minutes after my appointment time (which isn't a problem these things happen) my consultant Dr (cant name them) called me in, they were rushed and seemed very annoyed, and very condescending. I left that room feeling guilty that I had even bothered these far superior people with my silly concern, did I not know having half a numb head was to trivial a thing to bother them with! They did ask condescendingly, "will it please you and will you be satisfied if you have a scan" the only bit they omitted to say but implied was, you time wasting woman.

As a reminder Dr (cant name them) most people come to you for help and answers to ailments that have worried or frightened them, this doctors attitude made me leave there feeling as though I should put up and shut up, and not have wasted their time.

I hate going to the doctors or anything medical and avoid going, I am a medical coward, I only go when it worries me enough, I waited for 5 years after first experiencing this, being the kind of person who thinks most things will right themselves in time, only after it started happening more often have I sought help.

This doctors attitude was disgusting, if it was for some unknown stress I didn't know about, I sincerely hope today was a better day for you, and your patients....... if that however is his usual manner...... shame on you and I pity your future patients.

I will not recommend going to the general neurology department at all if that's how your treated, the NHS has some wonderful members of staff, this doctor lets the side down, what a shame they cant be named and shamed, how will they ever change if they don't know.

On a more positive note the receptionist was lovely, and the lovely person that guided and walked us to the neurology department, a person who could teach a thing or two about good old fashion manners.
