Visited Horder Centre Crowborough in March for a total hip replacement. The Op was on Saturday afternoon and I was discharged on Monday.
Absolutely delighted with the outcome. All staff at the Centre were extremely caring and attentive.
Had a few sessions of physiotherapy at Tunbridge Wells to correct the leg length discrepancy. The physiotherapist was brilliant and explained that this was due to years of walking with pain. My gait had gradually changed to allow me to function through the pain and therefore different muscle groups had shortened/lengthened. With a few exercises and a lot of determination everything is great now.
I was very diligent with the post op exercises as my priority was (and still is) to regain the fitness lost during the last few years.
I started cycling again in May and swimming in June. I now cycle approximately 10 miles a week to work and back and swim around 7km a week having taken up membership at the local pool. I've just returned from a cycling weekend doing 40 miles in 2 days. All this within 6months. Miracle or what?
When I wear out my other hip I will definitely seek out help from the Horder Centre again. Although they say they cannot perform miracles, for me they have.
I think you need to have a positive attitude and determination to get yourself as fit as you possibly can, both before and after surgery. I am a 56 year old female enjoying an active life again . . . thanks to everyone at The Horder Centre Crowborough x
