"Not the best experience but not the worst"

About: Northern General Hospital / Accident and emergency

I was admitted to AnE on the 3rd September due to kidney stones through the outpatients gp centre. I got to AnE approximately 10:45pm (after being told I'd be seen straight away) and waited about half an hour before seeing anyone. This I wouldn't have minded so much if I didn't feel like I was in labour and had everyone staring at me like I was too. I was took through the back around 11:30 and put in a side room with my husband, still in pain and trying to get comfy. At 1am I finally got pain relief and could finally try and relax on a trolley bed. 3am I finally got onto a ward and they had to put a canular in due to being dehydrated. There was some amazing staff day and night but not enough of them. The next morning after I'd pressed my buzzer for some medication a nurse came on about 20 minutes later apologising saying she had to take care of my room and next doors on her own due to low staff. I was discharged the following day and told I'd be getting a letter sent out for a follow up in two weeks. That was two weeks ago yesterday and I've not had a letter yet.

I am sorry to hear about your admission and the poor experience that you encountered. Your comments will be escalated to senior staff within the Trust.

However, in order to assist you with the letter you refer to that has not yet been received, can I suggest that you contact our Patient Services Team who will be able to assist in this matter? There telephone number is 0114 271 1976 or by email pst@sth.nhs.uk. The team can also take formal complaints if you wish us to investigate your concerns about the care that you received.

Kind regards.
