"Rheumatology, Leeds"

About: Chapel Allerton Hospital / Rheumatology

(as the patient),

In June various blood tests were taken, and other bloods and investigations since - all communicated to my GP, Some letters copied to me. However, a letter (dictated at the begin of August , and typed in mid August, but received mid September as "urgent" ) advises that my Vitamin D level is "severely low" and requires treatment. The "severely low" was detected in June. Given that it is not known how long the level has been low and advice to address it is STAT, why has it taken TWO MONTHS for this to be addressed?

I am extremely worried that proper communication is not swift and that my health is, and has been, compromised.

Dear Redhotpain

Thank you for taking the time to write to us.

I am very sorry to read that the delay in clinic letters reaching your GP has caused you such distress. The level of service and communication that you have described is not what we wish to offer.

It would be very grateful if you could discuss this matter with our Trust’s Patient Advise and Liaison Service (PALS). This would also allow us look into the matters you have raised more thoroughly and also to see if there are any lessons that we could learn from your experience.

Please call our Patient Advise and Liaison Service (PALS) on 0113 206 6261 or alternatively email patientexperience.leedsth@nhs.net

Kind Regards

I have done as suggested. No reply. Followed up. Reply that management would contact urgently. Nothing since. Is it best to take to Chief Exec level? Will that result in any reply? Meanwhile, am I to take it that any other info in respect of tests undertaken weeks ago will be communicated before the year ends? Would be helpful if any are significant. I am definitely not getting better, by the way.

End of year upon us, nothing satisfactory. Subsequent appt with 28 days of meds prescribed. Had to go to GP for further prescription. Up to me to tell GP what I "think" is going on. Surely GP at least needs to know? I would appreciate some communication myself - my body, I need to know how to help myself.
