What I liked

I give birth to my son at North Manchester. The midwife care was excellent. My midwife who helped me give birth was amazing. She was so professional and extremely caring. All of the midwives and doctors involved were fantastic and offered impeccable service.

What could be improved

The Postnatal ward is embarassing for a hospital that is in a major city.I felt it was very clean and there were certain members of staff with serious attitude problems.

So, I decided to do my own investigation with local mothers who have given birth at this hospital and like me they have been put off by the postnatal ward. Mainly because of the staff and how they treat women after they have given birth. I witnessed bullying by certain staff. This I find disgusting considering how vulnerable women are after just giving birth. One of the midwives (after a episiotomy) asked me why i hadn't put a dirty nappy (that was just fresh and wrapped up in a bag) in the bin. She made me get out of bed and walk to the bin instead of just helping me and doing it for me!

The breast feeding support workers put me off breast feeding and even wrote lies in my postnatal notes about my baby and I being unsettled and stressed when clearly we were fine.

A lot of mothers that I have spoken to have stories about this ward and it's such a shame because the actual hospital's antenatal ward and midwives that help you give birth are so professional.

How can this be improved? A little bit of respect and care goes a long way especially after giving birth but trained midwives should already know this....

I didn't think it was very clean. I was in for just under two days and only witnessed one clean and I wouldn't call cleaning with a dirty cloth and mop cleaning either. My bed sheets weren't changed at all so I lay in blood stained sheets for over 24 hours. I was so desparate to leave in case my baby caught anything.
