About: NHS Lanarkshire University Hospital Wishaw / Respiratory Medicine (Ward 7)

(as the patient),

My GP referred me to Wishaw General for a respiratory consultation. I was told the waiting time was 12 weeks.

After 14 weeks I called to enquire and was informed the waiting time was 20 to 26 weeks.

I informed my GP practice who were surprised as they believed they should have been informed when the waiting time went up from 12 weeks.

12 weeks is long enough but to be kept hanging on week after week waiting on an appointment is not acceptable.

I have had my consultation, tests and now await the results. I am happy with the service I am receiving now.

Thank you for getting in touch and I apologise that you have encountered a delay in being seen at one of our Respiratory Clinics. The delay is principally due to the demand for our clinics exceeding the number of patients’ appointments that we have available and would like to assure you that all efforts are being made to provide additional Consultant clinics to see patients and reduce the waiting time that patients are currently experiencing.

I will also ensure that communication is fed back to our GP colleagues to advise of any delays in waiting times that we encounter.

I am pleased that you have now been assessed and that you were pleased with the service provided to you.
