"Paediatric Assessment Unit, Crosshouse Hospital"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Paediatrics

(as a relative),

My grandson was admitted to the unit and I have only praise for the standard of care he recieved. Thank you to all staff.

However, while there, another child's treatment was upsetting. The child's care at home was giving health professionals cause for concern. Rightly this was being addressed but this was done in the open ward area where all the other patients and their families could hear every word that was said. One interview was particularly heated and upsetting. Can I suggest that, where there are delicate issues being discussed that this be done in privacy to protect the patient's right to confidentiality and dignity.

I respond initially to most of the posts and ensure they are passed to the appropriate team whether they are compliments, observations or grumbles. It is important to make sure all issues are addressed and I try to encourage that to happen for all the posts as required.

Dear concernegran,

Firstly, I am very glad your grandson got great care in the paediatric ward and I hope he is all well now.

Taking your second point, you are absolutely right, this is not something that anyone should overhear or witness. I will pass this on to the team for their reflection and action.

Thank you for taking the time to share this with us, your feedback lets us address the issue.

Best wishes,

Eunice

Dear concernegran,

Thank you so much for taking the time to tell us about your experience in the paediatric unit and for your positive comments regarding your Grandson’s care. It is inappropriate to overhear such conversation in a public space. I will take the opportunity to remind all staff for the need for privacy at hand overs.
