"Acute medical unit service"

About: Wexham Park Hospital

My husband and I were down to visit our daughter in the Berkshire area, unfortunately my husband was brought into Wexham Park with severe gastric pain. My daughter informed me that Wexham Park had recently been acquired by a larger organisation due to its negative press - this left us quite anxious and not knowing what to expect!

We were pleasantly surprised. We were seen by a junior doctor, registrar and medical consultant within two hours of admission and subsequently transferred to the acute medical unit. The unit was very busy, but amongst the hustle and bustle of the daily nursing and medical routines - we were seen by a junior doctor.

Certainly the most courteous of doctors we have met in a very long time! Their bedside manner and etiquette was brilliant. They knelt down and explained what was to happen during my husbands admission in a clear and concise manner for us to understand. They attentively listened to my husband and allayed our concerns, providing confidence and reassurance towards my husbands care by the way they spoke – I could not fault the service and clinical care provided at all.

We noted the doctor would take the time to come back to us (and other patients) after the morning doctors ward-round and explain the results of tests in greater detail. The doctor was polite, considerate, professional and above all respectful – referring to us as Mam and Sir – something which is certainly missing from our previous experiences in larger NHS hospitals in London!

The ward nursing staff were lovely and it was evident that they provided a timely response to the call button (although we never used it, as nurses would routinely check up on my husband and other patients).

Thanks to everyone involved in my husbands care from start to finish - I cannot praise Wexham Park highly enough!

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback on your husband's unexpected visit to Wexham Park Hospital.

I am pleased to hear that you all had a positive experience and the doctors communicated well and with respect.

It is always nice to get feedback such as yours to help show us where we get it right and the things that made the difference.

I will pass your comments onto the team on the Acute Medical Unit.

I hope your husband has recovered well

Kind Regards

Claire Marshall
