"Induction at fern ward very good but too noisy"

About: Musgrove Park Hospital (Taunton)

I went in to fern ward for an induction. I was on fern ward for two days. The first night was too noisy, the radio was still on quite late and out of all the empty cubicles, a couple was put in one next to me. There phones were going off etc yet nobody told them to keep the noise down. I didn't get any sleep before I ended up going into labour. On the second day of my induction I had a student midwife and they were absolutely brilliant, they came to check on me regularly and was so lovely. If nobody mentioned that they were a midwife I wouldn't have known at all. Overall my care on fern ward was very good! All I can say though is that the price of the coffee shops and food is so expensive and I wasn't allowed to leave the hospital to go elsewhere. Even though I didn't get to go to the Bracken Birthing Centre, my experience on Fern was good.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us and I am sorry that there were problems with noise in the ward area. You have raised some valid practical issues and we are making some immediate changes to correct this. We want every birth experience to be a positive one and it was lovely to hear about the good quality of care you received and to have such strong praise about the student midwife.
