After my wife suffered a stroke and was left with cognitive problems and was referred to the team that covers our area she received an appointment with the Dr in 6 weeks but after seeing her and despite the Dr asking for urgent appointments for the team nurse OT and speech therapist to see her we have had only one appointment with the nurse and no appointments or contact with the OT dept.

Only the speech therapist has maintained in contact and visited us in the last 6 months, upon trying to make contact with these services all you are told is that the mental health trust is underfunded and that they have a 9 months waiting list and some people from the stroke dept are even working 3 day weeks. The situation is very bad.

Thank you for highlighting your concerns. I am sorry you and your wife have experienced difficulties with maintaining contact with our services. Older Peoples services have a number of community teams across the county and unfortunately I have not been able to establish which team have previously been involved. I would be grateful if you could contact me in order that I can pass on your concerns to the relevant Team Leader. My contact details are: Paul Carruthers, Day Services Manager 0115 8760100. My normal working hours are Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm.

After posting our story we have been contacted by the responder and had an initial visit from the OT team with a promise of an early appointment both seemed very concerned about the situation.I will follow this up after Having that appointment.
