"Excellent service in Emergency Department"

About: East Surrey Hospital

My adult son arrived via ambulance at the ED at around 10am on Bank Holiday Monday, 31st August and was in excruciating pain with what turned out ultimately to be crystals in his bladder through to urinary tract.

He told me the care he was given was excellent with immediate pain relief together with an X-ray.

Having ensured the pain were under control and somewhat alleviated he was released around 3 hours later with prescriptive pain relief and other medications and advised to return the next morning for a CT Scan to determine any problems with his kidneys.

We arrived at around 9am next morning (1st September) at the Radiology Department, his information had been passed over from the ED, and he was having a CT Scan within 5 minutes.

After which he had a pre-arranged same day appointment with a Consultant in ED in the early afternoon to discuss the results of the scan.

The results were good and the original problem is now being treated with medications.

The Consultant advised they were not too happy with his blood and arranged an immediate blood test and the results of which the consultant phoned through to him the same afternoon.

All good.

I'm well aware his emergency was not ultimately life threatening but any excruciating pain in the lower abdomen is not something to be ignored.

I haven't had any situation in recent years to precipitate a visit to the Emergency Department and can only say the care he received was well beyond my expectations.

Everyone in the medical team were friendly, supportive, and helpful.

Thank you for posting such a positive story about your son's recent experience in A&E at East Surrey Hospital.

It is particularly good to read that you found the different departments worked well together so that information flowed as it should and he was seen quickly and efficiently.
