"I was admitted to Airedale after ..."

About: Airedale General Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

I was admitted to Airedale after a miscarriage has been confirmed in another hospital whilst on holiday. I was dealt with kindly by the staff and doctors who were honest with me most of the time. The gynae doctor on the night shift, I can't remember his name but he sorted me out straight away and seemed to know what he was doing.

What could be improved

After first arriving at hospital I kept having to retell my story to each person that saw me which was very upsetting.

I was given a tablet to take orally to enable the miscarriage to complete and sent home. 3 hours later I was in indescribable pain and had to dial 999. I was not told it would be this painful. There was noone to treat me in A&E until eventually a gynae doctor came. He was excellent and knew what to do straight away. The only bed available was on the maternity ward so there I was surrounded by new mums and babies, people bringing balloons and flowers. The person who I think was in charge of the ward kept barging into my room during visiting hours to check how many people were there etc and was very rude. The low point was when the photographer came into my room to ask "had my baby been born yet?"

The food was inedible and my husband had to bring me food from home. I had to wait two days for a scan to show whether the miscarriage was complete or not. The staff were doing their best but everything seemed very short staffed. The midwife was very good and very comforting to me.
