"I was admitted on the 3rd November ..."

About: Barnsley Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

I was admitted on the 3rd November 2008, with an acute liver infection which led to 60% lung collapse, swollen liver and spleen, sepsis, phnemonia and moments away from major organ failure, I am not sure I could have been much more complicated to look after.

The whole experience has completely changed my outlook on life and I am forwever endebted to all that looked after me in the three different departments the porter and countless others that all were involved in making sure I had the best possible care.

At the times most worrying and upsetting when I was at my worst, the calm nature of the nurses who looked after me, helped keep me calm even though I thought I may not live, my wife 8 1/2 months pregnant at the time (An ex ICU nurse herself ), they even managed to help her through it. It was very upsetting time for us all but I cannot speak highly enough of the care and attention I received from everyone. They managed to combine a friendly attitude with great professionalism. I could not have wished to be anywhere better.

Furthermore when I left the hospital on the 18th November 2008 at 16:00 my wife and I returned within 15 hours with her in labour with the birth of our first born, and again we were looked after with respect, professionalism all wrapped up in a friendly attitude, nothing was too much trouble and again I have nothing but praise for the whole experience we had in maternity. There are few words I can write that do my experience and the hospital justice. I am so very pleased that Barnsley hospital has scored so well and felt so strongly about how well I had been looked after, I had to write this. It is a truly fantastic hospital and I am proud to live close to such a great facility. I now have the luxury of being able to see my son grow up. Thank you all!!

What could be improved

Little could be improved and it is not worth mentioning as it pails in to insignificance with the level of care I received.

Anything else?

I cannot state loudly enough how grateful I am to have been treated at Barnsley Hospital. All the staff I met were incedibly friendly and help my whole family through a very distressing time. My parents, wife and friends all found thestaff incredibly accomodating and there is nothing more that I could have asked for.

Barnsley Hospital is a credit to the NHS and it has set the bar for others to follow and ought to be more recognised for its efforts.
