"Follow Up to 13 Days of Misery"

About: William Harvey Hospital (Ashford)

My female friend has now been discharged from this joke of a hospital 5 times in august and 5 times she has had to be readmitted via A&E with exactly the same problem which has been get worsen by the day. She has now spent a total of 22 days as an inpatient getting passed from ward to ward, consultant to consultant, she finally got a diagnosis on the Thursday prior to the bank holiday weekend and was told she would remain in for at least 48 hours to see if the treatment would work, and she was thrown out within 12 hours as the hospital pharmacy did not have the drugs( nor had the registrar heard off them ) which I obtained at the local chemist !!!

Her pain and symptoms worsened over the bank holiday weekend and the 111 service insisted she be readmitted, so once again back to A&E we went.

The competence level and lack of communication both amongst the staff and more importantly the patient is appalling and a complete waste of both the patients and NHS time.

We hope for a speedy resolution but on past performance I have my doubts !!

Finally the ward staff are great but obviously very frustrated with the doctors most of which are very junior and chucked in the deep end and there consultants.

If you have an aliment that is slightly unusual avoid this hospital at all costs.

I am so sorry to read of the frustration both you and your friend are experiencing, and the fact that communication between the patient and the staff is so poor.

Please will you ask your friend to contact PALS (the Patient Advice and Liaison Service) on 01227 864314 or 01227 783145, email ekh-tr.PALS@nhs.net or via our website (where she can complete a complaint form) and we can then investigate the issues you raise and take the matters forward.

If she is not well enough to contact us herself, please use one of the methods of contact yourself and we will send a consent form to you so that you can complain on her behalf.
