"Traumatic Stay at Lincoln Hospital"

I was taken to Lincoln Hospital by ambulance to the A&E Dept. where i was seen straight away, given intravenous morphine and put on a drip. It was obvious that the nurse was rushed off their feet and tired, they struggled to take bloods & kept dropping things; which were left on the floor with other blood stained articles probably from the patient before me. I was in A&E for 5 hours before being moved to the MEAU ward. During the 5 hours of waiting we were subjected to listening to very abusive patients towards members of the staff. Once on the ward i was put in a side room, i asked one of the nurses for more pain relief - i was told quite bluntly that i would have to wait to be registered and then see what the doctor said, when i asked why i couldn't have the same as i had in A&E i was told that morphine was addictive and i couldn't have it - i would have to wait, only when i became so distressed with the pain did the nurse miraculously get me some pain relief before being registered, morphine (oral morphine) & intravenous paracetamol. I was left to sleep for a few hours, the nurse then registered me and i was moved onto the main ward at 7.30 am the next morning. The following 4 days & 3 nights on the ward can only be described as a nightmare. Although the staff were caring, they were obviously short staffed and rushed off their feet, one of the nurses who gave out medication, took OB's, also served the lunch and tea!! they could hardly speak English and was unable to explain to me what my new medication was and had to fetch someone else. 2 of the patients were so abusive and disruptive towards staff & patients they had to be moved off the ward. My bottom sheet was not changed until i requested it to be changed on the last day. The floor was only mopped when a patient left and down the centre of the ward - my area was not cleaned at all and was quite dirty with dark stains. I kept my curtains closed around my bed, this seemed to be a bug bear for the staff as i was continuously asked if they could open them, when i declined i felt like it was a big issue. I was also subjected to other patients who were supposedly ill either congregating around one bed having 'a laugh' or shouting across the ward to each other. Visiting hours was open all day & night, which at some times of the day felt like a wedding reception with kids running riot and loud talking adults showing no respect for other patients. This was obviously tolerated by the staff as it took the pressure of them. I was finally allowed home even though i was never told what was wrong with me, (when the nurse eventually found my discharge papers). I felt traumatized by the whole experience and hope that i never have to attend Lincoln hospital again.
