"Great help when I was locked in my house"

(as a service user),

I come two days a week to Gowanlea and I love it. I love every minute of it. I’ve been to a lot of clubs over the years but this is the best. Everyone is so kind, they are my carers, they look after me. I look forward to coming.

I like the company at the centre and the staff. You get good meals, everything is served with a smile. They can’t do enough for you. I get a bill every month and I don’t grudge a penny. I don’t know how people can think you would get it for free.

The staff do a lot of hard work putting on shows and parties. There was a big retirement party last month, it was brilliant, it lasted a whole week. There was an Elvis impersonator and 3 of the staff were dressed as Elvis. We also have a Halloween party and a lovely Christmas dinner.

Last week when the bus came to get me I couldn’t get my door open. The driver and one of the staff tried to get it open and were talking to me through the door but it was stuck. They phoned Margaret, the manager, and she came to my house with Dawn but still couldn’t get the door open so they had to phone my son who then called a locksmith. Margaret came back later just to make sure that everything was ok. This is the kind of service you get!

My only problem was I missed my day at the centre!

I have to say that it was a pleasure to read your story about the level of service that has been afforded to you and I am glad that the staff were able to assist you in the way that they did.

I am also pleased to read that you have a whole range of activities at the centre that you seem to benefiting from and that these activities are tailored to meet the needs of the people we support.
