I had my second son at the John Radcliffe maternity women's centre and my negative experience on this occasion will stay with me forever.
The service on the delivery suite was extremely poor.
I was moved from the ward to the delivery suite 3 times! I was told I was not in full labour and my baby wouldn't be born for another day at least and spent half a day roaming around the corridors with no pain relief while they tried to send me back home ( which was about an hour away) I refused to go home and my son was born 2 hours later! The midwife in charge of my care insisted that a student take over my care and the student was useless and rude. They refused to examine me when I told them my baby was coming and the baby's head was out.
It was just the most awful experience and all they said in the end was 'oh your baby surprised us'
Well, it shouldn't have been a surprise, I had kept mentioning the fact that I was in labour and my son would be born soon.
If I had gone home like they suggested I would have had my son in the car.
It made the birth of my son a mortifying experience and they made me feel like I was being a nuisance. The service was cold and impersonal and the staff were rude.
"Not a great experience"
