I would like to share my recent experiences of the NHS after having knee replacement surgery at North Tyneside General Hospital (Rake Lane).
Too often people are quick to criticise the NHS from excessive waiting times to poor nursing care however as an anxious patient, this has not been my experience!
From my first meeting with the surgeon who performed my surgery to the day I was discharged, everyone who had a role to play in my care were brilliant. It would be unfair to name particular members of staff as they all carried their different roles to such a high professional standard, theatre staff, ward staff, physiotherapists the list could go on.
Sister and the excellent team on Ward 8, both day and night staff, were respectful of my needs. The care and attention given to me and others by the staff on this well run, spotlessly clean ward made my stay bearable.
After nearly 40 years working within the NHS as a nurse, though retired 20 years I am proud to say that there is still ‘care’ in what was always known as the ‘caring profession’. Thank you.
