"The Royal Liverpool University Hospital A & E"

About: The Royal Liverpool University Hospital

I visited this department yesterday, August 24rd 2015 at about 5.15, advised to do so by the NHS telephone helpline because I had been stung on the mouth by a wasp and my face was swelling rapidly.

I was seen by a nurse quite promptly, who said she would get me some Piriton but returned immediately to say I would have to see a doctor before I could get it.

I then waited 2 1/2 hours, with the pain and swelling getting worse all the time.

I complained to various people that all I needed was some emergency treatment that it would take someone only a few seconds to give me.

I was told othing could be done.

I realise now that I could have gone and bought the Piriton myself, but nobody told me that, and the fact that I wasn't allowed to have it without seeing a doctor led me to think that it was available on prescription only.

When I finally saw the doctor they were horrified that I had been made to wait so long, in pain and needing treatment it would have taken only a few seconds to provide.
