"A Long Stay In Ward 11"

About: The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

(as the patient),

After a pretty horrific accident when I was 9, I was left with Leg Length Discrepancy until I was admitted under one of the most fantastic surgeons in the Country - Mr Christopher Bache. Staying in a children's ward on and off for the duration of my childhood wasn't what I imagined but The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Northfield softened the blow that was inevitable Surgery. Throughout the time that I was admitted to the Hospital, I went through a range of different Physiotherapies, Hydrotherapies and temporary solutions to my difference in Leg Length.

I had a range of surgeries whilst in the Orthopaedic, mainly on my Right Leg but also on my Right.

2011 - Pins and plates put in place around the growth plates in my left knee, reducing the speed of growth and therefore stopping deterioration of the difference.

2013 - Pins and plates removed from left knee and 2 & 1/2 inches of bone removed from right femur, reducing the longer leg length, fixed in place with a series of metal pins, screws and plates.

2014 - All metal work removed.

2015 - Discharged.

Throughout my stays in Hospital, the nurses, anaesthetists and surgeons always made me feel comfortable and helped with my anxiety. Now, at aged 16, my legs are as fit as they were prior to surgery and I have a whole new life ahead of me.
