On Friday in the late afternoon I think I was bitten by an insect whilst in the garden. There was a small bump but it did not bother me. Two hours later however the swelling was worse and my arm was red and blotchy. On Saturday morning I was not feeling well and called 111 for advice as my own GP service was closed. Fortunately the person who took my call understood the severity of the problem and made an appointment for me to be seen by the out of hours GP service at St Helliers and advised me to go there to be seen in person.
At St Helliers they examined my arm and prescribed antibiotics, antihistamines and cream to be applied. This is the first time I have used the 111 or the out of hours services, they were really good.
